Updated: Feb 16

MARCH 13TH WEBINAR OPEN BANKING: IS IT GOOD OR BAD FOR CANADIANS?

In January 2020, Canada’s Minister of Finance office released a much-anticipated report representing its findings into the merits of open banking for Canadian consumers. Much of its examination centered around consumer privacy, security, and financial stability. The report is the result of consultations with a broad range of stakeholders across the country, as well as qualitative public opinion research.

OBIC has gathered thought leaders representing banking, FinTech, and regulation to share their distinct viewpoints on the report’s conclusions. Each of these thought leaders will be featured panelists at our upcoming webinar on March 13, 2020, at 9:00 am MST.

These thought-leaders include:

Bhupinder Singh Saini – OBIC Co-Chair Carlos Figueredo – Open Vector, Founder and CEO / OBIC board representative Kate Grant – Fintech Growth Syndicate, Director David Hooper – CGI, Vice President, Open Banking & Payments Consultant, Strategy & Product Innovation Executive Matt McGuire – AML Shop, Co-Founder and Practice Leader / OBIC board representative Kevin Morris – Strategy and Programs Director, Large Credit Union Coalition (LCUC)

During our discussion with these highly regarded panelists, we’ll explore:

  • why the government wants to re-brand open banking with the term ‘consumer-directed finance’

  • who is responsible for the adoption of open banking in the Canadian marketplace

  • how the Canadian financial sector maintains its global competitiveness while strengthening innovation and transitioning to a data-driven economy

  • the current risks to Canadian consumers and how open banking will provide them with added protection, privacy, and cybersecurity

  • how open banking has impacted the UK and other jurisdictions that have adopted and implemented it

  • what the framework for open banking will look like in Canada

  • the impact of open banking on the fintech, banking, and regulatory industries
